MINDS WIDE OPEN: UVa Celebrates Women in the Arts

The University of Virginia hosts a collaborative event to celebrate the state-wide Women in the Arts initiative (see the website at www.VaMindsWideOpen.com). The UVa event will encompass a variety of departments and showcase a multitude of disciplines including poetry, dance, theater, music, film and art. This student-initiated performance celebrates female artists at UVa and throughout the Charlottesville community.

Transcendence
Join us for a mesmerizing evening of new works and old favorites. Charlottesville Ballet brings back Keith Lee’s A Windswept Remembrance, where dancers create a moving landscape that swirls in tandem with decadent music. Nicole McGurn of Charlottesville presents a work of contemporary ballet. Stanardsville's Kelly Silliman adds a playful modern work to round out the diverse program.

A Storybook Ballet Experience: Cinderella
Don't miss this new addition to our Children's Ballet Series! A Storybook Ballet Experience is perfect for ages 3 through 8 and includes:
*Introductory Ballet Class- Explore basic ballet steps and dance to the music of Prokofiev's Cinderella.
*My-Size Paper Doll Activity- Learn the history of the ballet and design your own Cinderella costume!
*Cinderella Performance- Watch professional dancers of Charlottesville Ballet perform the famous Cinderella pas de deux.
Join us for an afternoon of learning, fun, and dance!
Saturday, April 17th with two matinee classes: 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Children's tickets are $35. Accompanying adults enjoy the show for free!

Master Class
For those who would like to experience professional dance first-hand, join Charlottesville Ballet for a Master Class. Participants will take ballet class on stage with the company dancers as they prepare to perform. An excellent experience for the aspiring dancer!
