She is excited to join the Charlottesville Ballet Board and looks forward to growing the organization through her business experience.

Kahtra Kayton

Kahtra brings to our board a delightful array of experiences and roles, each lending a valuable perspective to the business of the board, supporting and encouraging the mission of Charlottesville Ballet.  Kahtra grew up taking ballet in Northern Virginia with training in Royal Academy and Russian techniques as well as summer study with the Washington School of Ballet. As a mother, she has watched both of her daughters enjoy dancing while encouraging the passion of her younger daughter, Kate, to pursue ballet as a major in college. Kate completed her senior year of high school as a Trainee with Charlottesville Ballet and is now working toward her BFA in Ballet Performance.

Kahtra graduated from the College of William & Mary, and then taught high school biology & chemistry in the Richmond area. When she and her husband Jack moved to Charlottesville in 1995, she began a direct sales business; and after 11 years, she transitioned to become an independent coach in team development & executive coaching. She is passionate about helping others identify and bolster their Strengths, to celebrate the unique gifts of individuals and the purposeful interactions within teams. As an active community member, Kahtra has been involved with her church, Community Bible Study, the local William & Mary Alumni Chapter and the Junior League, serving in leadership in each of these organizations. She is excited to contribute her focus on excellence and development to the Charlottesville Ballet!

Carol Krohn

Carol Krohn moved to Charlottesville in 2000 with her husband, Steve, and their two sons, Joseph and Peter.  She volunteered for a number of years in various capacities—from room mother to school representative on the countywide Parent Council—when her boys were students in Albemarle County public schools.  She is a long-time volunteer for the Shelter for Help in Emergency, where she served on the board of directors as fundraising chair for five years and board president for three.  Carol is a member of Church of Our Saviour Episcopal, where she serves as register of the vestry and sings in the adult choir.  She also sings in the Festival Chorus of the Virginia Consort.  In her life before children, Carol worked in journalism and public relations, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in British literature from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Carol loves music and storytelling and traces her love of ballet to its transformative combination of the two.  She also believes deeply in the life-changing value of arts education and in the essential fairness of extending that opportunity to every child.  Carol enjoys volunteering weekly to walk children from Woodbrook Elementary School to their Chance To Dance classes, getting a front-row view of the Charlottesville Ballet’s commitment to making ballet accessible throughout our community.

Lisa Molinaro | Woodbrook Elementary Principal

A 30+ year educator, Lisa Molinaro is the Principal of Woodbrook Elementary in Albemarle County. A transplant from Pennsylvania, Lisa has had a love for the arts ever since she was a child. Like most little girls, she wanted to grow up to be a ballerina the first time she saw the Nutcracker, but never had access to this kind of opportunity. This personal experience has been a driving force in her life as an educator in that she continuously is seeking partnerships in the community to close the opportunity gap that exist for young children in our world. A strong believer in the idea that if you connect a child’s passion with the opportunity to develop it, the sky is the limit for their success. Lisa received her undergraduate degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University of PA, and her Master’s Degree in educational Administration & Supervision from the University of Virginia. She has served as an administrator for the last 12 years, and all of her years as an educator have been devoted to working in high poverty schools.

The mother of two, Lisa and her husband Geoff watched their daughter grow up as a dancer from the time she was 4, giving her a good idea of all that goes into nurturing the development and appreciation for dance. She is excited to serve on the board of the Charlottesville Ballet and believes passionately in their mission. Lisa is looking forward to helping move the Ballet forward in reaching the goals that have been set for the organization.
