Adult Brazilian Dance Class | Friday, September 27

This class will focus on Samba and Brazilian Funk with instructor, Izabelly Gleed. 

Izabelly Gleed

Izabelly began her dancing career at the age of four, in Vila Velha, Brazil. She graduated in 2009 from the School of the Bolshoi Theater in Brazil and then in 2012 from the Escuela Nacional de Cuba. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Professionally, Izabelly has danced multiple lead and corps roles, and in 2015 she was brought on to Lake Erie Ballet in Erie Pennsylvania as an instructor and company artist. Izabelly is excited to be on faculty at the Academy and perform as a Company Artist with the professional company at Charlottesville Ballet.

Alexander Technique | Saturday, October 12

This class will focus on Alexander Technique with instructor, Jennifer Kelly. 
The Alexander Technique is a self help method through movement education. It creates awareness that one can use in whatever they do most, whether that is dancing, public speaking, walking, or sitting in front of a computer.

Jennifer Kelly

Jennifer is an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique teacher and is training to be certified in Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing. She has a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia that specializes in teaching performing artists and athletes as well as those who literally want to breathe easier.  Jennifer has been teaching the trainees at the Charlottesville Ballet since 2014.  She enjoys personal training with her clients at the Boar’s Head Sports Club at the University of Virginia.  Jen has spent years building community through small business. In 2003, she opened The Hip Joint, a dance and yoga boutique, on the Historic Downtown Mall. After selling it in 2016 The Hip Joint continues to be a presence in the arts community. She currently is a co-owner of Maya Restaurant in Charlottesville. Jennifer holds a BA in Dance from James Madison University (1996) and has been a member of the Zen Monkey Project since 1999. She and her husband live in Ivy, Virginia with their two children

Jazz | Saturday, January 25

This class will focus on jazz technique with instructor, Casey Turner. 

Casey Turner

Casey is originally from Dallas, Texas. She began dancing at age two and proceeded to train in a variety of styles. She attended Texas Ballet Theater School for one year before being offered a contract with the company. During her three seasons at Texas Ballet Theater, she performed in multiple ballets choreographed by Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, OBE. She also attended summer programs at the Kirov Academy in Washington, DC, Joffrey Ballet School, Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet, and Alonzo King LINES Ballet. She then continued her studies in San Francisco at the LINES Ballet Training Program. Upon completing the program, she stayed in the Bay Area as a Freelance Artist. She performed with Oakland Ballet Company for two seasons, as well as Copious Dance Theater, a modern dance company. Additionally, was a Principal Guest Artist with Western Ballet and Orinda Ballet Academy. For the past five years, Casey has been a Dancer and Dance Captain for Royal Caribbean, performing on ships all over the world. Casey is now on the faculty for her second year at Charlottesville Ballet Academy.

Ballet | Saturday, March 28

These classes will focus on ballet technique with instructor, Pedro Szalay. 

Pedro Szalay

Pedro was born to Hungarian parents in La Guaira, Venezuela where he received scholarship at Ballet National of Caracas, receiving coaching by Vladimir Isayev amongst others. Later, he traveled to New York City to be coached by Madame Darvash, and performed with New York Dance Theatre. Szalay moved to Virginia in 1996 to dance with Richmond Ballet. He has been a guest teacher in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and at Virginia School of the Arts, Washington and Lee University, and St. Paul’s Ballet Company. Throughout Central Virginia, Szalay has enhanced the lives of children by teaching and coaching for Chesterfield Ballet School, the School of Richmond Ballet, and the Minds In Motion program in Richmond, Charlottesville, Martinsville, Salem, and Roanoke City schools. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of Southwest Virginia Ballet (SVB) in the Roanoke Valley where he has elevated SVB to be recognized locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. His choreography credits include CoppeliaRomeo & JulietSowing SeedsThe Long Christmas Ride Home and Charlottesville Ballet’s Cinderella in 2019.

Beginner/Intermediate Class (for levels Ballet 1 & 2) from 2:30-3:30 PM
