Charlottesville Ballet announces the return of its student scholarship fundraising initiative: Dancers for Dancers. The program is modeled after student fundraisers such as Jump Rope for Heart, where students go out into their individual communities and raise money to support student scholarships at Charlottesville Ballet Academy. The program originally launched in the fall of 2015 to huge success. Students were challenged to raise $5,000, but raised roughly $7,200. These funds went to supporting the $84,000 CBA provides in financial aid and scholarships to students.
This year, our goal is $6,500. If every CBA student raises just $12, we’ll reach our goal and be able to continue our mission of providing dance education to all those who seek it.
Engaging students in fundraising also fosters a sense of personal impact, contribution, and a peer-strengthened community. Teaching our students the impact and value of philanthropic effort is important to us — and we hope you’ll participate as a parent too!
Donations and student forms are due back to CBA April 17, and prizes will be distributed the week of May 8 – 13. We will have a grand celebration in between performances of The Firebird on Saturday, April 29 at 3:15pm on the front steps of PVCC.
We are thrilled to engage in the second (now annual!) year of D4D and continue our efforts to make dance accessible to all! We hope you’ll join us in this endeavor — and we’ll see you at the studio!
Looking to register your 3-5yo in an engaging and uplifting activity? Try CBA’s new session of Princess Ballet and give your student the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of ballet in a supportive and structured environment.
WHEN: Wednesdays at 4:15 – 5:00pm
DATES: March 1 – May 24
It’s #loveyourballet month at CB and we hope you are all feeling the love, whether it’s from attending our annual Father/Daughter Valentine Dance, attending our Evening of Romance performance, dancing in Academy classes, or on our social media! We have some images below to hopefully warm your hearts and inspire you to keep on dancing and #loveyourballet!
Now that February’s events are over, the Professional Company is looking ahead to March and Chopiniana + New Works, and the dancers are hard at work preparing the 100-year old romantic ballet and the accompanying new contemporary works! Stay tuned on the CB Blog and our Facebook for behind-the-scenes images, videos, and updates!
We hope you’ll continue to spread the love of dance and of Charlottesville Ballet in person and online, by hash-tagging #loveyourballet and tagging us @cvilleballet.
~With love from all of us at Charlottesville Ballet

We’re almost done with the first month of 2017 and Charlottesville Ballet is hard at work prepping for the busy balletic month of February! Here’s a quick Company Update of some of the things the CB Artists have been working on since their return from their post-Nutcracker break:
Dancers are prepping for the Studio Theatre performance that’s included in the Father/Daughter Valentine Dance, which is always a special treat for young attendees as they get to boogie with the professional dancers before and after the performance. This year’s performance includes the sprightly “Cupid Variation” from the classical ballet Don Quixote, and former CB Artist Mary Hein’s Danse de Quatre. Tickets for the event are still available at CharlottesvilleBallet.org/FDVD2017.
(Check out a clip of CB Artist Regina DuPont performing “Cupid” at the 2016 event:
Charlottesville Ballet’s beloved in-house preview series: “UpFront” returns this season with Evening of Romance, an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres from The Shebeen Pub & Braai, and dancing. The UpFront series provide an intimate sneak peek of the works presented in CB’s Season 9 mainstage productions (specifically Chopiniana + New Works). This February’s will include scenes from the romantic reverie: Chopiniana, as well as a Charlottesville premiere by Richmond Ballet’s “homegrown ballerina” Maggie Small. Check out her Choreographer Interview below, and then make sure to join us in person by visiting CharlottesvilleBallet.org/Upfront.
And looking ahead to March…
Charlottesville Ballet presents the romantic ballet Chopiniana and new contemporary works on March 18 at PVCC. Charlottesville’s CBS19 proudly presents this season’s annual mixed repertory production, and we hope you can join for the groundbreaking artistic event of the season! Tickets and more information available at CharlottesvilleBallet.org/Chopiniana.

Charlottesville Ballet’s studios will be open on Tuesday, December 27 from 10:30am – 5:30pm for anyone wishing to stop by and tour the facility!
The building will be closed Wednesday, December 28 – Thursday, December 29. We hope everyone is having a restful and relaxing holiday!
It’s that time of year again – it’s just early enough that you’re not quite stressed about the holidays, but close enough to December that you have holiday shopping in the back of your mind.
But never fear – the ballet is here! And we’re here to help with holiday gift suggestions:
Goods: Charlottesville Ballet is participating in the Belk Charity Sale, which will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 6:00am – 10:00am. We know it’s early – but apparently the sales are great and it’s a great opportunity to support the ballet! How it works: $5 tickets to the private shopping event are available at the CB Front Desk (during regular business hours, and cash only). The ticket gets you into the sale, and the proceeds from the ticket purchase directly benefit the ballet. It’s a great way to support your ballet, gain access to a great sale, and see CB Staff bright and early the morning of Nov. 5!
Experiences: Charlottesville Ballet opens its ninth performance season on December 3 with its production of The Nutcracker in Lynchburg, and continues through December 22 with performances in Culpeper and Charlottesville. Taking a friend or family member to the ballet is a magical (and hopefully memorable!) experience for everyone. How it works: Tickets can be purchased at CharlottesvilleBallet.org/Nutcracker and large group discounts are available. E-mail [email protected] with any questions!
That Special Someone: Charlottesville Ballet’s UpFront: Evening of Romance is a perfect event to bring your special someone to in February – no worrying about last-minute Valentine’s gifts if you plan ahead this year! How it works: Tickets for the event are available online at CharlottesvilleBallet.org; wine and hors d’oeuvres are included – flowers are on you though!
Happy Holidays from all of us at Charlottesville Ballet!
