A Legacy Celebration at the Academy Center of the Arts

December 11 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Charlottesville Ballet is proud to be the Resident Dance Company at the newly renovated Academy Center of the Arts, opening Fall 2018 in Lynchburg, VA.  A Legacy Celebration is a showcase event featuring the Resident companies of the Academy Center of the Arts. All five Resident companies, including Charlottesville Ballet, Endstation Theatre Company, Jefferson Choral Society, Opera on the James, and Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, will present a 15 – 20 performance under the ‘legacy’ theme, which ties back to the Historic Academy of Music Theatre and its own complex legacy.

Charlottesville Ballet’s presentation is sponsored by CAPTRUST and includes a selection of works that embody the timelessness and power of live art. Charlottesville Ballet Co-Directors Sara Clayborne and Emily Hartka are delighted to bring ballet back to Lynchburg and have created a legacy of collaboration through dance between two neighboring cities in Central Virginia. The evening will feature New Moon by Sara Clayborne and Stained Glass, a work choreographed by longtime Lynchburg resident Keith Lee, with dancers representing the kaleidoscope of color in stained glass windows within houses of worship throughout the ages. The performance also includes an exclusive preview of the Grand Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker (which will premiere at the Academy Center of the Arts the following Saturday!) in the classic ballet that’s cherished by audiences across America each holiday season.
