CBA’s dress code ensures that all students have a professional appearance and mitigates the distraction of different attire styles. Please see below for Academic Year Dress Code.
*PLEASE NOTE: There is no required dress code for Session Classes, Satellite Classes or CBA Summer Classes/Camps. Students should wear any dance attire and the needed dance shoes for these classes.
First Steps Division (2-6 yrs)
Princess Ballet, Creative Dance, Ballet/Tap (ages 4-6), Parent & Me, Ballet/Jazz
- Option 1: Eurotard 44285 Short Sleeve Dress in Pink (at My Dance Shoppe or Amazon) OR Capezio CC877C Double Layer Skirt Tank Dress in Pink (at My Dance Shoppe or Amazon); skin toned or pink tights (optional); skin toned or pink full-sole ballet slippers
- Option 2: tucked in white t-shirt; black shorts or black tights or black pants; black full-sole ballet slippers, white socks
- Creative Dance and Ballet/Tap: above attire plus ballet shoes and black tap shoes
- Parent & Me: no dress code required!

Children’s Division (Unit 1)
Storybook Ballet, Hip Hop Dance Mix, Ballet/Tap (ages 6-8), Ballet/Jazz (ages 6-8)
- Option 1: Eurotard 44285 Short Sleeve Dress in Lilac (at My Dance Shoppe or Amazon) OR Capezio CC877C Double Layer Skirt Tank Dress in Lavender (at My Dance Shoppe or Amazon); skin toned or pink, convertible tights (optional); skin toned or pink full-sole ballet slippers
- Option 2: tucked in white t-shirt; black shorts or black tights or black pants; black full-sole ballet slippers, white socks
- Hip Hop Dance Mix and Ballet/Tap: above attire plus ballet shoes and black tap shoes
Children’s Division (Unit 2)
Pre-Ballet 1 & 2, Musical Theatre, Tap/Jazz 1A & 1B, Contemporary 1, Hip Hop 1
- Option 1 (all classes except Hip Hop): black leotard (any style – must be at least 95% black).
Pre-Ballet: above plus skin toned or pink convertible tights with seam (ex. Capezio #18C), skin toned or pink ballet slippers - Option 2 (all classes except Hip Hop): fitted athletic white t-shirt tucked in; black tights with dance belt or black shorts or black pants.
Pre-Ballet: above plus black ballet shoes
- Musical Theatre tights & shoes: Convertible skin toned tights; black dance shorts or fitted black jazz pants may be worn (optional); black jazz shoes
- Tap/Jazz tights & shoes: Convertible skin toned tights; black dance shorts or fitted black jazz pants may be worn (optional; black tap shoes and black jazz shoes
- Contemporary tights & shoes: Convertible skin toned tights; black dance shorts or fitted black jazz pants may be worn (optional); bare feet
- Hip Hop: Any dance or workout attire the student can easily move in (no buttons/zippers on pants). If shorts are worn the length must be mid-thigh; no tights required; any clean pair of sneakers that will not be worn outside
Student & By Placement Divisions (9-18 yrs)
Ballet 1-5, Open Ballet, Ballet for Boys or Boys Dance, Variations, Pointe, Partnering, Pre-Professional Technique
- Option 1: black leotard (any style – must be at least 95% black); skin toned or pink convertible tights w/ seam (ex: Capezio #18C); skin toned or pink ballet slippers
- Option 2: fitted athletic white t-shirt tucked in; black tights with dance belt; black ballet slippers
Jazz, Tap, Contemporary
- Option 1: Black leotard (any style – must be at least 95% black), convertible skin toned tights, black dance shorts or black jazz pants may be worn (optional)
- Option 2: fitted athletic white t-shirt tucked in to black dance shorts or black jazz pants
- Jazz Shoes: black jazz shoes
*Broadway Jazz 4/5 Only: Black flexible character shoes are needed. Examples: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3 - Tap Shoes: black tap shoes
- Contemporary Shoes: No shoes – dancers will dance in bare feet
Hip Hop 1-5 & Open Hip Hop (Does not include Hip Hop Dance Mix)
- Any dance or workout attire the student can easily move in (no buttons/zippers on pants). If shorts are worn the length must be mid-thigh.
- No tights required
- Any indoor sneaker that will not be used outside (not necessarily a jazz sneaker)
Adult Division
- No dress code required!
- Any dance or workout attire the student can easily move in (no buttons/zippers on pants).
- Proper dance shoes for the class genre is required (ballet shoes, tap shoes, hip hop sneakers not worn outside, barefoot for contemporary).
CB Moves Division – Adaptive Classes
- No dress code required!
- Any attire the student can easily move in (no buttons/zippers on pants).
- Students are welcome to wear any shoes (dance shoes or sneakers/support shoes) or barefoot.
- Hair should be pulled back away from the neck/face if possible.
HAIR: Hair is to be secured in a bun or hair pulled back neatly away from the face and off of the neck for all classes.
TIGHTS: CBA does not require a specific brand of tights for any of the classes, however we prefer students to wear convertible skin toned or pink tights with a seam for ballet. First Steps Division Classes & Storybook Ballet students are NOT required to wear tights for class, however they will need tights for the CBA Showcase & Spring Performance!
No jewelry is permitted in class; only small stud earrings may be worn. Students are not permitted outside of the CBA building without street shoes on and clothes worn over dance wear.
